It’s just, “That’s not really where the issue stems from and it’s not the way to go about fixing it” is more or less what I said. I acknowledged the feminist angle and questioned its applicability to this discussion. Thus, I facepalmed when I read your statement. When I talked about “fixing” things I meant that the feminist reading would look upon cultural assumptions of virginity as things to be fixed. I did not mean the workings of the deeper reptilian brain, which, as you’ve said, probably can’t be fixed.

But still, I think understanding the fundamentals is necessary. I mean, just look at the idea of behind “You guys can’t get women, is that it?” It’s the same principle. The guys want to make themselves feel more capable and more important be deriding the other guy baselessly. Blah blah blah.

I don’t argue that discourse on this topic degenerates into a feminist argument; rather I recognize the right to read it from the standpoint of a feminist critique. I merely don’t find it terribly helpful to do so because this is a case of men bashing other men for their ideals of 2D women. You’ve also overgeneralized my statement that there is a cultural expectation of virginity in women, by certain groups of men, to “all men expect virginity.” Perhaps that generalization sounds shallow, but it isn’t mine. There is nuance missing here that was present in my article.

In any case my handling of the matter is primarily concerned with the superficial criticism (“You guys can’t get women, is that it?”) leveled at 2ch otaku by Western otaku. It does not attempt to be a fundamental dissection of the underlying issues.

Which in a way makes me sad. Why must people be like this way? They should be able to handle this kind of thing. Most of the time anyway.
